Not that it was in question, but Bath City produced their best result of the campaign to emphatically underline their British Gas Business Premier Division champions tag. It was the perfect end to a season of highlights and left no doubt City are worthy of their place in Blue Square Southern next August. John Relish's side signed off on 91 points, 13 clear of second-placed TeamBath, having only lost five league games all season. As expected, Relish made a couple of changes to the side that secured the title at Yate last week with Craig Davidge paired with Martin Paul up front, Gethin Jones playing at full back in place of injured captain Jim Rollo and Dean Clarke and Scott Rogers selected in central midfield instead of Adie Harris and Steve Jones.

The changes seemed to have a disruptive effect in the early stages as Rugby had the better of the exchanges. Matt Coupe was caught out by a clever turn from David Stone who then fed Chris Tullin, only for him to shoot wide. Stone then had a glorious chance to open the scoring when he found himself one on one with Paul Evans who pulled off a great save to maintain parity. Chris Holland let the lively Stone get in front of him moments later, but Evans was down sharply to smother his snap shot. Earlier, Paul had broken clear before releasing a weak shot that trickled past Farhad Afandiyev and was scrambled clear, before he crossed for Mike Green who narrowly failed to supply a final touch. City regrouped and took the lead in the 29th minute as Holland netted in typical fashion, rising in the box to head home a Green corner. Two minutes later, it was 2-0 when Sekani Simpson curled in a delightful 20-yard shot from the edge of the area to register his first City goal since his move from Weston-super-Mare. No one was on the end of a Davidge cross five minutes from the interval that was eventually hacked behind and Coupe headed straight at Afandiyev from the subsequent corner as City continued to press.

And there was another goal a minute after the restart as Clarke broke his scoring duck, profiting from substitute Matt Prosser's cross. Paul extended the advantage after 50 minutes, smashing in from a yard after his initial shot was blocked on the line. The same player should have added to the lead when he volleyed Simpson's cross over on the hour mark, Holland nodded off target and Davidge also blazed over as the game became one-way traffic. Davidge rifled home from the corner of the area with quarter of an hour remaining to equal City's biggest win of the season. And Holland ensured they saved the best until last, sealing their greatest winning margin of 2006/07 with a looping header on 77 minutes.
