A Solitary strike from prolific Pole Arek Zarczynski booked Bath City's place in the first round proper of the FA Trophy after a frenetic clash at Tooting and Mitcham.City scored the decisive goal right on the hour when a Chris Holland header from a Mark McKeever free-kick caused confusion in the box. It eventually fell for Scott Partridge who drilled an effort against a defender with Zarczynski on hand to tap home from close range. Tooting had come out firing on all cylinders, but City were equal to it and the game swung from end to end for the opening 20 minutes. Paul Evans was the busier of the two keepers, saving early efforts from Paul Vines and Ronnie Green with relative ease. City came much closer to scoring shortly after. First McKeever failed to connect with a free header from four yards out at the back post and then Scott Rogers hit the top of the cross bar with a dipping 25-yard effort. Just before half-time, Lewis Hogg head-butted Vernon Francis in the stomach after being scythed down from behind by the winger. Referee Warren Atkin pulled both players over and then incensed the baying Tooting crowd by booking Francis and letting Hogg off the hook with a stern word.

What had been an end to end, but tight, game opened up in the second half with Tooting making the most of the space. After taking the lead, City just about hung on, throwing bodies in the way of long-range efforts, while always looking to break on the counter attack. Evans was only forced into one good stop from a powerful Vines effort and, at the other end, Rogers again shaved the cross bar with a 25-yard lob. Tooting became more frustrated as the game wore on and keeper Dave King was lucky to escape with a booking after handling outside his area with five minutes to go. The game was all but over when Vines tried to take out Evans with the ball already out for a goal kick, sparking an ugly confrontation between the pair, for which both players were booked.
