Scott Rogers fired out two good reasons for City fans to believe their Twerton Park jinx could be coming to an end after last night's FA Cup replay win at Tiverton. Rogers, who has only just returned from injury, smashed home a brace of superb strikes to help turnaround a 1-0 deficit as City cruised into the next round despite being held to a goalless home draw four days earlier. But it was more than just a change of venue that inspired City, still winless at home this season, to their replay victory. John Relish's overhauled side produced an inspired team performance to dominate a very strong Tiverton outfit, and Rogers coming back into the side could prove the key to unlocking Lewis Hogg's undoubted ability. By contrast, Tiverton must curse the day John Relish moved to Bath. Relish has faced Town six times since taking over at Twerton just over a year ago and now has a record that reads won four drawn two. That unbeaten run looked on shaky ground early last night.

City's defence were caught napping just four minutes in when Chris Bale pounced on a Jamie Mudge through ball to blast home. A fiery 20-minute spell followed with the referee dishing out cards for a series of rash challenges from both sides. City then suddenly found themselves back on level terms when Craig Davidge, in his best game as a starting player, broke down the right and delivered a dangerous low cross which Rogers hit first time into the back of the net. Jon Holloway headed against the bar from a corner as City upped an already high tempo but it was Town who came closest next when Mike Booth went clean through only to be denied by a terrific save from Paul Evans, who also did well to scramble away the rebound. A end-to-end first half was capped off by the move of the match. Rogers won the ball in his own half, laid it off to Lewis Hogg, who ran 40 yards before playing in Scott Partridge on the left hand side of the box. Rogers continued his run to the penalty area and, when Partridge's cross found him on the back post ten yards out, he fired a scorching drive into the roof of the net to give City a 2-1 lead at the break.

After the restart, Evans produced another excellent save to deny Danny Harris from a Barry McConnell centre. A moment of magic from top-scorer Partridge effectively sealed the match. A long-throw from Davidge was inadvertently flicked on by the Tiverton defence and, with his back to goal, Partridge produced a stunning overhead kick from ten yards out to make it 3-1. Rogers came close to a hat-trick with a free-kick that went inches wide but, even as Tiverton piled on the pressure, City always looked in control.
