Bath City are still without a win after three pre-season games but they will be far from concerned with their form after another promising display against a useful Cardiff side. The visitors controlled a sloppy opening spell as the home side struggled to get to grips with an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation.

Paul Evans was forced into the first save of the game when Darcy Blake smashed a speculative, 25-yard shot straight at him after seven minutes. City grew in confidence as the game wore on with the highly-talented Lewis Hogg at the heart of most moves. It was Scott Partridge who inspired the best chance of the half, though, with a jinking run down the right wing. After dragging two players out of position, he passed back to Dean Clarke, whose threaded ball was chipped over the bar by Scott Rogers. Hogg and Phillip Walsh both went close as City continued to push forward, but Cardiff came back into it. Luigi Glombard hit a shot straight at Evans after a nice first touch. Minutes later, the striker made an excellent run through the home defence, admirably staying on his feet under a strong challenge from Jim Rollo, before firing a low shot straight at the City keeper.

The second half proved much tighter with few clear chances on goal. Defenders Chris Holland, Matt Coupe and Gethin Jones had looked solid throughout but the opening goal caught all three of them flat-footed. The clearly offside, but not interfering with play, Saheed Sankoh distracted them just long enough to allow Curtis McDonald to run on to a through ball and slot home. City responded well with trialist Justin Pritchard again showing flashes of brilliance and sloppiness in equal measure. After wasting a couple of decent opportunities he set up Rogers with a beautiful airborne back-flick, but Scott Allison made a fine save with his trailing leg. City were not to be denied for long, though, with Hogg bursting into the box and cooly slotting home a Pritchard pass.
