Scott Partridge ended a six-match barren run with a brilliant brace to help his side cruise into the third round of the Somerset Premier Cup. The out-of-sorts City striker had only scored two goals in 15 games prior to the match but looked like a man in form as he inspired his side to a comfortable win over Toolstation Premier Division opponents Bishop Sutton.

The result was never really in doubt with City controlling the game from start to finish against a spirited Sutton side. It still took a while for the first goal to come though with the home team defending resolutely and riding their luck. Martin Paul, Partridge, Jim Rollo and Phil Walsh all had chances to break the deadlock but were unable to find a way through despite playing with the pitch's pronounced slope. With almost the last touch of the half though, a long clearance from inside the City half flew over the home defence for Partridge to run on to. The striker outpaced his marker easily but had to keep his cool to fire past keeper Simon Crawford.

The timing was harsh on Bishop Sutton but a goal was no more than City deserved and the floodgates opened soon after the restart. Martin Paul made it 2-0 on 46 minutes with a cheeky 20-yard lob over Crawford and five minutes later it was 3-0 when Phil Walsh rammed home a Jim Rollo cross. Shell-shocked Bishop Sutton were clearly rocking from the City blitz and Partridge made it 4-0 when he took one touch to control Adie Harris' through ball before firing home his second on the hour. Credit to the home side who rallied in a bid to salvage a consolation goal but City were in no mood to throw away a run of six clean sheets and always looked more likely to score. Substitute Alan Clarke had Bishop Sutton's best chance with quarter of an hour to go when Sam Payne's free-kick found him free at the back post but he could only knee the ball into the side-netting. The game was effectively over by then anyway and all eyes were on Partridge to see if he could finish off his hat-trick. Apart from a tame effort straight at Crawford he never looked like adding to the score and was substituted with ten minutes left to warm applause. There was still time for a moment of deja-vu when a late challenge on Tony Bird sparked a pushing match between a handful of players but it failed to match the heights of Saturday's brawl with Bromsgrove and only one yellow card was shown.
