With just over fifteen gone in, up to that point, a largely uneventful game a typical Harvey challenge near the centre circle saw him come off second best. It was immediately clear the injury was serious and he was stretchered off and taken to Cheltenham Hospital. The injury was later confirmed as a dislocated and broken ankle. With City already missing Gary Kemp, Steve Tweddle, Russell Milton, Paul Milsom and Frankie Bennett through illness or injury this left City down to the bare bones. Despite this with six minutes remaining in the half they took the lead. The ball was only half-cleared to Harvey’s replacement Steve Bridges 18 yards out and his looping volley found the net. A header by Mike Trought moments later looked to have doubled the lead only for the referee to harshly judge that the defender has fouled his marker and the second half saw a complete turnaround in proceedings. The 58th minute saw a strong run by Clark leave three defenders trailing and his finish matched the build up. City introduced latest trialist Toby Fowler shortly afterwards but he lasted just seven minutes in which time the home side scored twice. Kear and Bevan were the beneficiaries during this spell before former City player of the season Mike Davis completed the rout on 88 minutes.
